Just found out my Netbook running Ubuntu Linux lacked a ssh server. Apparently I forgot to install…
sudo apt-get install openssh-server
After installing openssh server it is recommended to disable root logins through ssh.
To disable root logins we edit the sshd config file as following:
And find the line with PermitRootLogin:
# Authentication: LoginGraceTime 120 PermitRootLogin yes StrictModes yes
Change the line to this: (press i for inserting text)
Save the file (hitting Esc once and typing the command :wq )
Now restart the service:
service ssh restart
Somewhere in the near future I will do a post about connecting over ssh by key authentication.
Using the VIM editor
